As the panel of four judges sat and jammed out to Steve Memmolo’s blind audition, their expressions are terrific to watch. But when they spin around, their response is hysterical.
The auditorium is dark, but as Steve begins singing “Spooky” and the lights come up, the audience begins cheering. It’s not just because he sounds fantastic, but he looks like Hollywood heartthrob Ben Affleck.
Steve has a husky, almost rough-like voice in the beginning, but as he sings this groovy song, his voice seemingly changes. The judges nod as he sings, clearly impressed with what they’re hearing.
When he nails a higher note and holds it, putting his own mark on the song, they know he’s the real deal. Adam Levine is the first to hit his buzzer and spin, followed closely by Jennifer Hudson.
The way Steve personalizes this 1960s song recorded by Classics IV is phenomenal. He isn’t just a pretty face, but a talented musician, too.
When he wraps up his audition, Adam stands and applauds for him. The crowd also rewards Steve’s stellar performance with a standing ovation.
When Kelly Clarkson spins her chair around and freaks out! The 35-year-old from Boston, Massachusetts, has a very soulful voice, which Adam alluded to in his comical comment:
“It’s like Ben Affleck sings like Aretha Franklin.”
Kelly chimed in with her own wisecrack:
“I really want you to just say, ‘I’m Batman.'”
The judges bicker back and forth, arguing playfully over whose team he should sit on before Steve makes his final choice. They’re hilarious!
