If you’re someone who appreciates funny and entertaining television shows from past decades, you love the Carol Burnett Show. It was one of the most popular comedy TV shows during the 70s starring Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, and Lyle Waggoner. This hilarious show won numerous awards and even earned a spot on the list of the 60 Greatest Shows of All Time. The humor and the overall theme makes for a great stress reliever – definitely the type of television show you’d want to unwind to after a long day.
This particular sketch is something most people can relate to, especially those who love traveling and have experienced terrible customer service at one point. It shows a typical scene at the airport where people are lined up for security check before being allowed to board the plane. The airport personnel carrying out the procedure let most of the people through, except for one particular male passenger. The hilarious yet infuriating exchange starts off simply with the employee rattling off the usual spiel and the passenger commenting on how scripted it was. It then turned into an even more frustrating conversation as more questions were asked and the standard tasks were carried out at a rather lagging pace.
From a questionably slow boarding pass stamping routine to more delays caused by the employee suddenly demanding for more requirements, the situation resulted in the passenger’s failure to conceal his annoyance. Despite expressing his disgruntlement at the employee, the terrible customer service continued. The comical dialogue extended to the security personnel questioning the contents of the passenger’s bag and attempting to inspect it himself.
His exaggerated efforts to find out what the passenger had in his carry-on luggage even involved the use of tools, an unexpected part of an already funny scene that added hilarity to the entire sketch. The sight of the sharp objects being used to pry open his bag caused the passenger to respond with much indignation – something which didn’t seem to faze the security personnel at all.
This funny depiction of poor customer service ended with the passenger’s belongings being almost completely ruined, last calls for the passengers being announced on a PA system, and the already miffed passenger almost missing his flight.
If you’re someone who loves traveling and appreciates a good laugh, this episode will surely make your day. Let’s just hope you don’t encounter an employee as infuriating!
