Emotions were high for the members of the acrobatic dance crew V.Unbeatable as they stood on the stage of “America’s Got Talent,” ready for the high-stakes performance.
V.Unbeatable, from Mumbai, India, wore bright yellow outfits with the name “Vikas” printed on the back.
As the team captain introduced the group, he explained that the team was performing in honor of Vikas, and shared the heartbreaking reason why.
Judges Howie Mandel, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and Simon Cowell, joined by guest judge Dwayne Wade, listened intently as the team captain spoke.
“We are here to fulfill the dream of a boy whose name was Vikas,” the team captain said.
In an emotional moment, he explained that six years ago during a rehearsal, Vikas suffered a devastating fall, leaving his body with life-threatening injuries.
“His body was paralyzed,” the team captain said, as emotion flooded his voice. “After a few weeks, he passed away, and we were all broken. His dream was to be on the stage like this, so we are doing all this for him.”
As the team launched into an electrifying performance, including dancing, high-risk stunts and acrobatics, judge Wade was especially captivated.
Watching the dangerous tricks performed on stage, it was easy to envision how a life-ending accident could take place.
After the performance, Wade asked his wife, Union, to place her hand over his heart, so she could confirm just how quickly it was beating.
“My heart is beating at a rapid pace that I haven’t felt before,” the former NBA star said.
He credited the team for their dedication and sacrifice, understanding just how much time and effort it takes to rise to the top.
“I had this saying that whenever I hit a big shot, whenever I hit a game-winner, whenever it was one of those moments, I jumped up on the stand and I said, ‘This is my house.’ And today, on this stage, this is y’all’s house,” Wade told the hopefuls.
To the team’s amazement, Wade pushed the coveted Golden Buzzer, advancing the team to the quarterfinal round.
Wade later explained that watching the group come together with such precision and passion cemented his decision to give them the Golden Buzzer.
“I knew I was going to hit my Golden Buzzer for them in the first 20 seconds,” Wade said later in an Instagram video.
“They added some danger to it,” Wade continued. “Because I knew the backstory, it was passion to it, it’s unbelievable to see them give everything they had to the performance and you could see it, you could feel it.”
Best of luck to V.Unbeatable as they prepare for their next opportunity to light up the stage.
